The city of Budapest is divided in
two parts, the hilly side of Buda to the west and the flat
plain of Pest on the eastern bank of the river Danube. They
were once separate towns but were merged together in 1873.
The city centre starts on Vörösmarty Square. Váci
Street, the pedestrian main street of downtown Budapest, sets
out from here. In the Buda side of city you can find the Buda
Castle and the historical quarter full of sites. The most
exiting way of getting to the Castle is by taking the Funicular,
a little cable car up the Castle Hill. The range of cultural
events is huge. There are theatrical performances and concerts
of classical and light music every day, with both Hungarian
artists and guests from all over the world.
You can find in Budapest all kind of accommodation from private
rooms through 1 to 5 stars hotels. Good value, budget and
discount places. You can choose from a full range of cheap
hotels in Budapest, hostels, B&B's, apartments or guest
